Work begins on installing Vigo’s Christmas lights, which this year will feature almost 12 million LED lights and a total of 460 illuminated streets thanks to the work of the Ximenez Group
On the morning of 30 July, the mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, together with members of the Vigo City Council, inaugurated the start of work on installing the lighting that will decorate and fill the Galician city with light during Christmas 2025 in a symbolic ceremony.
This ceremony marks the start of months of work by Ximenez Group operators to install the Christmas lights that will form part of the city’s decorations. During the ceremony, the mayor and his companions showed some of the motifs that will be installed in the historic centre of the city during the Christmas holidays.
What will the Christmas lights in Vigo look like in 2025?
Once again, Vigo will outdo itself with its display of LED lights and decorative motifs, including arches, illuminated elements and decorative trees.
The main new feature this year is that the city will have a total of approximately 12 million LED lights illuminating 460 streets throughout the city, 40 more than last Christmas, and 7,000 motifs. In addition, kilometres of wiring, structures and 3D motifs will be deployed to shape Christmas in Vigo 2025, which its mayor describes as ‘the best ever in the history of humanity’. However, no details are known about the official lighting ceremony, which they have kept secret to maintain the excitement until the last few days.
Abel Caballero invites everyone to visit the city of Christmas, offering new features and surprises to continue to impress those who return and those who will arrive for the first time, attracted by the Christmas phenomenon. “There will be no one in Spain or Europe who will not come to Vigo. There is no need to say anything to people who have already visited Vigo at Christmas. Everyone who comes to Vigo comes back because Christmas is so attractive, so addictive, that we have lots of families who return, because, in addition, Vigo offers a high quality of life and the cost of living here is affordable”.
Christmas lights as an economic and tourist driver
Vigo’s Christmas lights have served as a tourist boost for the city, with December considered one of the city’s peak months. The city fills with visitors, hotels and restaurants operate at full capacity, and Vigo is internationally renowned for its Christmas celebrations. In this regard, the mayor has highlighted that the economic impact generated by Christmas in the city exceeds 800 million euros ‘by conservative estimates’ and, beyond that, ‘there is something that cannot be valued, which is the brand image’.
Vigo places its trust in the work of Ximenez Group for another year
Caballero has publicly congratulated Ximenez Group for its ‘cooperation’ in an installation that is ‘very complicated’ due to the scale of the project. So much so that he has clarified that Vigo City Council is already “looking ahead to Christmas in two and three years’ time. This is not something improvised; it is very well studied, very calculated, very measured and planned‘. And all this, he stressed, so that ’the emblematic place for Christmas, instead of being Times Square, is Vigo“.
For Ximenez Group, the Christmas lights in Vigo reflect the company’s power to transform a space with lighting. ‘When light becomes an experience, an identity and a tourist attraction, we are creating something that transcends the decorative. It is economy, it is employment and, above all, it is emotion for those who experience it,’ the company emphasises.
With this symbolic act, Vigo officially begins its journey towards a new Christmas that is already part of its DNA.
