The Menina
Collaboration with
Andres Sarda
Can there be a more iconic painting in our art history than Las Meninas? Represented in multiple forms, Velazquez’s Las Meninas has been one of the most adapted and emulated icons for decoration, urban structures, symbols, merchandise and also for Christmas.
This was achieved through the collaboration of Andres Sarda and Ilmex when they created a Christmas lighting projet featuring one of the main icons of the art, a large-format Menina to adorn the streets of Madrid.

The piece, measuring 10 meters in height and and 7 and a half meters in width, was designed in 2022 by Andres Sarda and manufactured by Ilmex. With over 37,000 LED lights, it wears a silver dress made of glitter, crystal pieces, tulle and lights. Since its debut in the Christmas season of 2020, it has occupied various locations throughout the city, becoming one of the main icons of Madrid’s Christmas lights and the largest Menina to date.
