Puente Genil, leader in Christmas lights

30 October 2025

It is increasingly common for cities to invest in Christmas lighting to celebrate the festive season and attract visitors

The epicentre of most of the Christmas lights that decorate the country and some cities in other countries is located in Puente Genil. From there, Ilmex, together with its parent company Ximenez Group, has been responsible for the design, manufacture and installation of the most impressive Christmas projects for 80 years, which have travelled across five continents.

The birthplace of Christmas lights

Puente Genil has become the epicentre of Christmas lighting thanks to the Ximenez Group, a leading company in artistic and decorative lighting that transforms Christmas into a spectacle of light, colour and emotion.

It also stands out for its 360-degree service, which ranges from design to installation of Christmas projects that illuminate more than 250 cities in 50 countries across five continents.

The lights that originate in Puente Genil are not simple Christmas decorations: they are true works of art that combine engineering, creativity and a lot of enthusiasm. Each installation is prepared in detail, from the first design to the last cable, so that everything shines safely, stylishly and with the lowest possible energy consumption. Puente Genil is thus recognised as the city of Christmas lights.

Thanks to its innovative capacity, Ilmex, together with its parent company, has managed to position Puente Genil as a synonym for excellence in artistic lighting, setting the standard in each of the cities where it is present.

Christmas lights around the world

Thanks to the international drive of Ilmex by Ximenez Group, the group has managed to develop lighting projects in more than 250 cities across five continents throughout our history.

Below, we will mention some of the company’s most impressive Christmas projects, some of which have made them shine around the world:

The Mile High Tree: also known as the tallest Christmas tree in the United States, the city of Denver has been enjoying this unique spectacle in its country since 2019 thanks to the magic of Ilmex. Standing 32 metres tall, it has become a Christmas icon that is installed every year in Sculpture Park, dazzling thousands of visitors who come to enjoy one of the most eagerly awaited light shows of the season.

The Tunnel of Light: located in the Belgian city of Oostende until 2020, it has been one of the most spectacular installations in the country and one of Ilmex’s most recognised. More than 200 metres of tunnel, made up of nearly 100,000 LED lights that projected light shows designed specifically for Oostende.

Milan’s Christmas tree: Europe’s largest Christmas tree was installed in 2019 in Milan’s Piazza del Duomo, consisting of 100,000 LED lights and standing 40 metres tall. Ilmex made history with this tree, which is the largest in Europe. It was manufactured using LED pixel technology and featured numerous light and sound shows.

Celestial Choir: if we had to highlight one of the most impressive projects carried out by Ilmex, it would have to be this celestial choir, which was first installed in 2022 in Malaga. A total of 16 angels over 4 metres high, supported by 12-metre-high columns and adorned with 12-metre-long trails, created a spectacular visual effect.
